Manrico wins, but doesn’t kill the Count. When Manrico secretly visits Leonora in the Count’s palace, they encounter and Luna challenges Enrico to a duel. The two rivals for Leonora do not know they are brothers. The Conte di Luna is also in love with Leonora. Many years later: Manrico, disguised as a troubadour, falls in love with the palace lady Leonora, who lives at the court of the Conte di Luna, the second son of the old count. She calls him Manrico and he grows up with the putative mother Azucena. The daughter of the gypsy, Azucena, kidnaps the son of the count but accidentally kills her own child. Out of revenge the count orders the gypsy be burned at the stake.
